Welcome
Welcome to the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative in the Basic Education Sector and congratulations on being selected! All assistants are required to do this training and we’re so glad to be on this journey with you.
This online training should take you around 10 hours to complete, but you can do it in your own time and take it lesson by lesson. Once you’ve completed all the lessons, you can download your certificate.
You will find that most lessons end with a quiz, to help you think about and remember what you have learnt. It will help you to have a notebook to take notes of things – you can do this with drawings, summaries or mind maps. Whatever works for you.
We wish you an enjoyable and successful experience and we look forward to hearing how you progress!
Background
The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) is carried out in the Basic Education sector – in other words, in schools. It is part of a presidential programme to take on three challenges that face our youth today: lack of jobs, poverty and inequality.
BEEI is part of a recovery programme that is put in place by the government to help young people by creating job opportunities for unemployed youth who are 18–35 years old. These jobs are in every province, all over the country.
The DBE has developed this orientation programme to help you find your way. The information will allow you to give meaningful support in your role at the school where you are appointed. One of the important outcomes of your role in BEEI is that you are able to develop important skills that can help you find a job after the contract ends.
This is the fifth year of this kind of initiative. In previous years, BEEI was known as the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) and the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative in the Basic Education Sector (PYEI-BEEI).
