Paired Reading Step-by-Step
BEFORE
- Ensure that there are enough books that your learners will want to read. Display the books.
- Learners pick pairs and sit together. Let the pairs choose one book between them.
- Learners read together with the book between them. Give them a set amount of time to read.
DURING
- As learners read, walk around and assist where necessary.
- After the agreed time, call the learners back to the main group.
AFTER
- Ask pairs to take turns to share what they read.
- Ask them questions about like, “What was your favourite part”, “Did you read anything funny?” and, “Would you recommend the story and why?”
