How can the TA support Literacy?

Effectively under the guidance of the class teacher:

• Ensure that learners follow the teacher’s instructions.
• Help with reading in the classroom every day.
• Support writing of full sentences and paragraphs – this can be a simple exercise whereby the learners describe a picture in 5 or more sentences, or simply write about what they have read. For starters they are confronted with the words of the Reading text which will support the writing process.
• Support learners with dictionary skills.
• Most importantly check if the learner comprehends/understands, can reason. Make notes of this for the teacher.
