BEEI Phase V: Safety, Support & Professionalism in Science Laboratories

Introduction

As a Laboratory Assistant placed in a school through the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) Phase V, you play an important support role in the science classroom. Your work helps learners explore and engage with practical, hands-on science safely and effectively.

This training module is designed to prepare you for that role. You’ll learn about safety procedures, chemical awareness, appropriate handling and storage practices, waste disposal, and professional conduct in the lab. Even if you don’t have a science background, this training will help you understand what is expected and how you can contribute meaningfully while working under the supervision of a qualified Physical Sciences Teacher.

This training does not qualify you to work independently with chemicals, perform experiments, or supervise learners. Your role is one of careful assistance – always guided by a Teacher.
