How to choose the right books

1. Why do you think it is important to choose books carefully when reading to learners? Write your ideas down in your notebook.
2. Read the book Fish Finds a Friend. Then complete the checklist that follows to find out if it is appropriate for a Foundation Phase class.

It is very important that you know your books thoroughly. Prepare for any reading activities by reading through the book you will use beforehand.

Activity

Read the book Fish Finds a Friend and answer the following preparation questions in your notebooks.

1. What are the main topics or themes in the book? Who are the main characters?
2. With which grade or learner age would you use the book?
3. What kind of reading activity would you do with that grade or group of learners?
4. What kinds of activities would you be able to develop after reading the book?
