The purpose of the Reading Champions Programme

Reading is a doorway to another world, to visit new places, to meet interesting characters, and to explore the world and all its wonders. 

The purpose of the Reading Champions programme is to:

• Instil a lifelong love of reading in South Africa’s children.
• Promote reading for enjoyment in order to develop a culture of reading.

Benefits of the programme for learners is to encourage them:

• To engage meaningfully with books.
• To be motivated and inspired to become independent readers.
• Have confidence and pride in their reading.
